HEAD CHEF MAT

Owner and Head Chef Mat has a passion for wholesome simple tasty food. That's him on the right! He doesn't normally look like that...he's much taller in real life and tends to wear a more consevative outfit when cooking! A fully trained and qualified chef, Matt aged 30 something, was born into cooking! He has worked for many well known establishments and has been involved in the food and drink industry for as long as he can remember.

In 2004 Matt and his wife Shiho seized the opportunity to unleash their personal culinary talents, with the purchase My Great Grandfathers.
They were building-up a loyal following, when disaster struck...... for them, their neighbors, local friends and the residents of Tewkesbury. On that one day, on Friday 20th July 2007, the flood-stricken town was overwhelmed by a record volume of 5 inches of rain. The town came to international prominence, appearing on the front page of many national newspapers, suffering as it did, from some of the worst flooding in recorded British history (more for press editors)

The town features many notable Tudor buildings, with its major claim to fame being Tewkesbury Abbey. My Great grandfathers is literally a few hundred yards from the Abbey. The restaurant building is thought to have been constructed in around 1500, in its present form. We believe there may have been some earlier construction on the site, as My Great Grandfathers is slightly younger than its immediate surrounding buildings. The restaurant has recently undergone extensive internal re-construction and re-decoration following the floods of July 2007. More about the history of the building when we find out!
